The Role
The Yunnan Province Key Laboratory of Public Health and Biosafety at Kunming Medical University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow specializing in infectious disease modelling with a primary focus on epidemiological, clinical, vector, and environmental surveillance data.
The successful candidate will develop and apply mathematical and statistical models to support outbreak preparedness, evaluate intervention strategies, and strengthen public health decision-making for priority diseases in China and the Southeast Asian region. This is a translational modelling position with strong relevance to real-time public health intelligence.
Research Focus
1. Transmission dynamics modelling using compartmental, stochastic, and agent-based approaches
2. Risk forecasting and scenario analysis to inform outbreak response
3. Spatial modelling of disease spread using demographic, mobility, and environmental data
4. Evaluation of vector control and public health interventions
5. Development of decision-support tools for health authorities
Essential Qualifications
· PhD (or equivalent) in Computational Epidemiology, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Public Health, Ecology, Data Science, or related field (awarded within the past 3 years)
· Age 35 or below at the time of application
· Strong record of first-author publications in epidemiological or statistical modelling
· Demonstrated experience with infectious disease data (case reporting, mobility, climate, vector indices, serology, etc.)
· Proficiency in statistical and modelling software
Desirable Skills
· Experience in operational forecasting or real-time outbreak analytics
· Knowledge of Bayesian inference, MCMC, or hierarchical modelling
· Expertise in GIS and spatial epidemiology
· Familiarity with vector-borne disease dynamics
