Closing Date: Until the position is filled
Start Date: Immediate
Salary: RMB 240,000–360,000/year, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Age Requirement: ≤35 years old
Duration: 1–2 years, renewable based on performance
The Role
The Yunnan Province Key Laboratory of Public Health and Biosafety at Kunming Medical University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with expertise in bacterial genomics. The successful candidate will help drive cutting-edge research on the evolution, transmission, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of clinically important bacteria.
The postdoc will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary research team working across clinical, ecological, and public health interfaces. Projects will leverage high-throughput sequencing, advanced bioinformatics, and genomic epidemiology to address national priorities in AMR surveillance, pathogen discovery, and outbreak investigation.
Research Focus
1. Genomic surveillance of drug-resistant and emerging bacterial pathogens
2. Evolutionary genomics of AMR and virulence determinants
3. Transmission modelling using pathogen whole-genome data
4. Integration of metagenomics for tracking pathogen diversity in clinical and environmental samples
5. Development of bioinformatic pipelines and machine learning models for bacterial genomics
Essential Qualifications
· PhD (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Public Health, or related field (awarded within the past 3 years)
· Age 35 or below at the time of application
· Strong record of first-author peer-reviewed publications
· Proven experience in bacterial whole-genome analysis, AMR gene detection, comparative genomics, and/or phylogenetics
· Proficiency in bioinformatic tools and programming
Desirable Skills
· Experience with metagenomic sequencing or long-read platforms
· Familiarity with genomic epidemiology frameworks
· Knowledge of machine learning or statistical modelling for pathogen genomics
· Molecular microbiology experience (e.g., bacterial culture, WGS library prep)
